The situation
Charis Clinic is a multi-location medical practice in the Salt Lake Valley. Its infrastructure had grown one purchase at a time: an on-premise mDaemon mail server, consumer-grade networking in places, and workstations that were maintained individually rather than managed as a fleet.
The practice needed its technology brought up to the standard its compliance obligations assumed, and it needed the transition to happen without disrupting clinics that see patients every day.
What WebGuy did
We ran the transition as a sequence of planned projects rather than one risky weekend.
- Replaced the firewalls at every location with secure WatchGuard appliances, configured consistently and centrally managed.
- Migrated email from the on-premise mDaemon server to Microsoft 365, moving 42 mailboxes with a planned cutover.
- Enrolled every workstation and laptop in Microsoft Intune with Entra ID, bringing encryption, patching, and policy under central management.
- Deployed new 8x8 phones as the practice phone system across all locations. This allowed employees to better work from home and on the go.
- Rebuilt the wireless systems on UniFi access points which were better sized for clinical use.
- Moved locally shared files to SharePoint with permissions mapped to roles.
The result
The practice now runs on a managed, documented environment: one identity for each staff member, centrally managed devices, business-grade firewalls at every site, and email that meets the expectations of a covered entity.
